In 1970, Don Beto & Dona Sara, immigrated from Ensenada to Los Angeles with the hope of a better life for their family. By 1975, they moved to Pomona where they raised their five daughters. Don Beto worked at a factory, while Dona Sara worked at their daughters school.
In 1987, Don Beto fulfilled his dream of owning a business and purchased a grocery store in La Puente. They named their store Ensenada Markets, to honor their home & family in Mexico. The beginning was difficult, the entire family worked long hours seven days a week. The hard work was rewarded when customers continued to return day after day. Eventually the grocery store added a Panaderia, Tortilleria, Check Cashing, and prepared Mexican food including flavorful & authentic carnitas, chicharrones, & tamales.
